My workplace is at a small studio in the Hayward hills at the home of my mentor Eric Steeler, called the Songwriters Studio, and is single-handedly run by him. The studio does various kinds of work with media, mostly music, and many of Eric's clients will come in and record a song or create an instrumental and he does his best to make sure there work sounds good. He also can help people with other types of media such as videos and graphic design, an example being an interview with a surfer that her recorded and is now editing.
The studio itself is relatively small and is spread out into two rooms. In one room is the soundboard (left) and the computers where Eric does all his editing and mixing. In the room adjacent to this one is the "booth" room where many microphones and and instruments such as a set set are set up and ready for recording. Usually only one client will come in to record a song over a pre-made instrumental, but sometimes whole groups or bands will come in with their instruments and create a whole song from scratch. Eric's rates for clients go for $35 an hour and $30 for block rates. It's a pretty entertaining business and Eric obviously knows what he's doing.

Post 6: Mentor Interview
My mentors name is Eric Steeler and his a studio engineer at his own "Songwriters Studio" in the Hayward hills. A typical day for him consists of him having clients come into the studio as he helps them create music. He also create some of his own music for his band called "Fringe". Eric first started with his music career when he was a kid, and all his friends that he used to hang around were in bands. One of his particular friends he hung out with worked at a recording studio which got him interested in engineering.
What made him stick to engineering over over types of jobs was how much he enjoyed it and also how it was different, faster way of making money. Advice he'd give someone for getting into the music industry, is "Don't mess around." He says life is hard and you need to see what your talents are and you need to find something you're good at.

One interesting thing that happened at my internship this week was that we got hands on and started creating a piece of music. We were introduced to a controller, a beat machine, and a keyboard, and we began composing a song by starting with a simple drum pattern. We also learned about different types of notes and counts such as 1/4 and 1/8 notes and how our pattern would fit into We were also introduced to Quantize, a feature which organizes the notes perfectly into the different counts for us if we were off beat.
Intro Post: How I Got My WLE: Oct 26th.
I got my internship by searching on my phone for studios around Hayward, I found one that was right next to my house called the Songwriters Studio. I called the owner of the studio, who in fact happens to be the father of a student at Impact, and I told him about the WLE and that I wanted to intern there. I then went to the studio and had an interview with him and I called a couple days later to confirm it. The LS I used to get my internship was Resourceful Problem Solving to find the actual workplace Effective and Persuasive Communication to talk to my mentor. My mentors name is Eric and the Songwriters Studio is inside his house. His house is on Fariview in Five Canyons, and there will will be helping his clients record their music and observing what he does.
POST 1: An intro to my WLE: January 6th, 2010
The type of internship that I am primarily looking for is something that has to do with music and music production. Of the course of the time everyone has had to look for an internship I have applied to about four studios and I have either been rejected and never gotten a response. On the Wednesday I was supposed to be at Job Shadow Day I was at home looking for an internship, where I applied to Linden Lab in San Francisco but I was also rejected from there. My next step in this process is to apply to more places to see if I can finally land myself a place in time before the WLE starts.
